In the UAE, people have begun talking about reducing dowries. In my view, a dowry is a symbol of dignity, not a matter of supply and demand.

Here in Bahrain, most dowries are between BHD 500 and BHD 2,000. Families that demand too much drive young men away.

Amounts have risen considerably in Kuwait. My family asked for KWD 5,000, and my fiancé refused. I would have preferred a lower amount so we could begin our life together.
