Life After Marriage

What Is the Best Way to Handle In-Laws Who Keep Interfering After Marriage?

I have been married for a year and a half. My wife's family calls her every day and sometimes influences decisions in our home. My wife is kind and loves them, but the interference is exhausting us. How can I address it without creating a conflict?

I went through the same situation. Create a private space in which you and your wife make decisions that belong to your home, and let her explain those boundaries to her family in her own way. Patience and time resolve a great deal.

The solution needs to come from your wife, not from you. She should set gentle boundaries with her family. If you confront them yourself, you may cause the opposite of what you want.

Speak honestly with your wife without attacking her family. Saying, 'We want to build our own home together,' is better than saying, 'Your family interferes.'
