Widows and Divorced Women

I Divorced a Year Ago and Want to Marry Again, but People Judge Me Before Hearing the Story

My marriage ended after a year and a half. There was no betrayal or major scandal; we were simply clearly incompatible. The problem is that whenever I approach a woman and her family learns that I am divorced, their attitude changes. I feel deeply discouraged.

Judging a divorced person is genuinely unfair. The same attitude exists in Kuwait, but it is beginning to change. Families that reject a man without hearing his story sometimes lose someone better suited than the alternatives.

Do not hide the divorce, but do not make it the centre of your identity either. Mention it confidently and without apologising. Be clear that you have not remarried because you have not yet found the right person, not because you are unprepared.

In a divorce, one person may have been at fault, or neither person may be at fault at all. Sometimes there was simply no compatibility or comfort between them, and separation was their destiny. A divorced person may also have studied what went wrong, learned the value of marriage and improved himself for the better.
